What you'll accomplish
By the end of this guide, you'll have Claude Pro configured as your personal nursing documentation assistant — set up with the context of your unit, patient population, and common documentation tasks. Instead of starting from scratch every time you need an SBAR note or patient education material, Claude will already understand your work context. Most nurses report saving 30–45 minutes per shift once this is set up.
What you'll need
- A personal phone or laptop (not a hospital device — use your own for AI tools)
- A Claude account (free at claude.ai — the free tier works for most tasks)
- Time needed: 30 minutes initial setup; 2 minutes per use thereafter
- Cost: Free (Claude.ai free tier) — or $20/month for Claude Pro (upgrades to Projects and larger context)

- Verify your email and complete setup
- You're now on the free tier — this works for all the core nursing tasks
